"We stayed with a large group that booked the entire resort property(28 cabins). We came mostly from Arizona. The resort cabins at Golden Bear Cottages were beautiful. Rustic cabins in the cool mountains at 7000 feet elevation. The cabins and grounds were very clean and well kept. The maids and landscaping staff were always trying to do something special. The office staff went out of their way to be friendly and accommodate all of our needs. This was a welcome surprise, as our group has some pretty picky people. But lhey all left happy... wanting to know how to sign up for next year's retreat event at Golden Bear Cottages in Big Bear. THANK YOU to Don, Karen, Lisa, Len and all the staff. See you again next year, and God bless you too!!!"

"By Marielle, stayed 02/18/08... The people at Golden Bear Cottages were delightfully friendly and accomodating. The price was reasonable, considering the time of year. The little economy cottage we stayed in this time was a bit near the road, but the other cabins are back far enough the road so it is not noisy. My companion and I would doubtless choose to stay with our friends at Golden Bear the next time we choose to visit Big Bear Lake. Oh, and by the way, they gave us $25 a day in free gasoline for our vacation at Golden Bear Cottages. Many thanks, y en espanol: muchas gracias."

"We just returned from our 5 day vacation stay at Golden Bear Cottages. Had a great time. The staff is extremely accommodating and very friendly. The cabin we stayed in was the perfect size and had almost everything you could think of stocked in the kitchen....from pots, pans, spatulas, baking pans, coffee pot, flatware, dishware, I can go on and on! "Our review...My family has been staying at Golden Bear Cottages resort for our Summer vacations since my dad was a little boy. My grandpa Bill would always tell us to get ready to go to Big Bear for a week after school was out, and we talked about it constantly for weeks. Now, we tell our kids the same stories about our great Big Bear memories for summer vacation at our favorite getaway from the summer heat. The folks at Golden Bear Cottages always welcome us back. The owners remember our names and make over the kids in a truely careing Christian way. Our reservation date is coming up this week and we can't wait to go. "Lisa, Lenny and Don and staff are the best people. This is the best place to stay in Big Bear. Our fifth and sixth stays at Golden Bear Cottages were with good size groups, 9-10 adults and children. Our other stays were just for family getaways from the summer heat. We always have the best time at Golden Bear Cottages. These historic family friendly cabin accommodations in Big Bear are private and have everything you will need. "We spent our yearly family vacation at Golden Bear Cottages. It is the perfect mountain retreat from all the hustle and bustle of Los Angeles. We chose Golden Bear Cottages because of the following reasons: it is family friendly, it has real historic cabins, cleanliness, location and a referral from a friend at work who goes all the time. First of all, remember that this is a historic mountain resort. That means that the cabins were built over 75 years ago. But, let me tell you that their staff really keeps these beautiful old cabins up! They have all been refurbished, and are top notch. It is not like going to a 5 star hotel, with everything white and dry walled. The historic cabins at Golden Bear are made out of logs and real knotty pine. They staff and owners at this resort have spent real effort to restore them as they were originally built. We took a tour of many of the cabins. They have only changed part of the bathrooms from original, so they could put those big two person spa tubs in most of them. The time the owners and staff spent with us shows their true desire to make us a life-long customer and friend. They have succeeded! We will definitely return many times in the years to come. It is like our own timeshare, but better because we only have to pay for it when we go for vacation. Thank you to all! You are the best!"

"Our family enjoyed a wonderful family reunion at beautiful Golden Bear Cottages in Big Bear Lake California. In addition to coming from California, some of our families came from the east coast and Mexico. Each year our family tries to out do ourselves by finding a better location than the year before. In the many years that we have done our family reunions we have never found a more perfect spot than Golden Bear Cottages. We have already booked again for next year, which will be the very first time we have gone to the same location more than one time. We now plan to make our reunion an annual event at Golden Bear. It is difficult to put our wonderful experience into words. When we orginally called to inquire about Golden Bear Cottages we found the office manager to be wonderfully helpful. She worked with us to help each family find exactly the right cottage that fit their needs. We worked back and forth while I, and other family members, checked Golden Bear's web-site for all of the information we needed to make informed decisions. Even before we arrived at Golden Bear, we were sure that we had made the right decision for our retreat. Many of our family members read previous guests experiences in the open guest book on the Golden Bear Web-site and we quickly found them to be accurate and helpful. When we arrived we found the entire staff to be professional, friendly, and tremendously helpful. Each and every need that anyone in our family asked for was taken care of promptly. We found the Guest Services Notebook in each cabin to be helpful in guiding us in what to do in Big Bear Lake. The cottages were clean, and the maids were anxious to help us with extra requests. All members of our family, from the children up to the elders loved the experience at Golden Bear Cottages. We will gladly recommend this serene and beautiful family resort to all of our friends."

"Review of Golden Bear Cottages... As a service member with countless assignments and 'business trips' that take me around the world, I made one promise to my wife and that was to give her the wedding of her dreams when we renewed our vows. The Christian management and staff at Golden Bear Cottages resort was far more than accommodating. Knowing our plans and desires, they provided valuable inject regarding the wedding ceremony and reception. Their involvement quickly grew in comparison to family participation. Thanks to their support and accommodation, my wife filled her eyes with tears because the event far exceeded her dreams. We give our top rating to both the cabins and the service. As a family, the facilities were balanced to accommodate all ages. With a family of seven children ranging in ages 3 to 9 years old, we were never without activities or space to explore. The property motivated and set a family atmosphere of peace and relaxation for all, including us parents. Without a doubt this is a recommended retreat, vacation or event location. "Just what I was looking for: My boyfriend and I were looking for an affordable three day weekend getaway up in Big Bear. Thank God for us this place was just what we were looking for! It was a very quaint looking cozy cabin. The cabin provided us with everything we needed and we had our own jacuzzi which was a plus. They also upgraded us to a larger cabin because the one we booked, the jacuzzi switch wasn't working. It was a very pleasant experience, soo nice. I would definitely come back here again and recommend it to anyone who is looking for an affordable place and a great staff to take care of you. Thank you for taking care of our military families!"

"Golden Bear Cottages Vacation Club, Review of program details and service by Gerald D. Stovall Sr. --- Our family recently joined the Vacation Club at Golden Bear Cottages in Big Bear Lake. We had been to Big Bear many times before, so we decided to find out if we could save some money by joining the vacation club. We are very impressed with the savings, service and flexibility of this new vacation club program. We get to vacation in the size cabin that fits our family's needs for five days or more each year for up to five years. The price was 40% less per day than we had paid before and we get to go anytime there is a cabin available. The first time we used the program, our size cabin was not available the days we wanted to go... so the great staff at Golden Bear Cottages upgraded us at no extra charge! Boy, isn't that refreshing! That has never happened from the timeshare company we belong to, and we paid many times more dollars for that vacation! I think it is safe to say we are going to be very happy with our Vacation Club purchase at Golden Bear Cottages. Plan on going later this year for a vacation at Thinksgiving or Christmas. Thank you so much to the staff for all their superior service!"

The family and I took a drive up one Sat. am and loved it! We happened to go off some reviews and I had my husband find this place. It was so cute and the owners were so sweet and helpful! We ended up spending the night up there in the Bear Hug cabin and now I'm getting ready to book a longer vacation for the spring ! I dont understand why they got such a bad review previously on the Internet? That's what prompted me to write this. This place was awesome! I guess some people are just strange!"

"Best Value and now a Great Mountain Vacation Club too. Best place to stay. Our family has been going to the mountains for a family vacation for years. Sometime we would go in the Winter, Summer, Spring or even Fall. Over the years we stayed numerous times at Golden Bear Cottages resort in Big Bear Lake. The last time we decided to join their Vacation Club. Now, we have been enjoying the mountains even more. It's close to home, so we can drive there in a little over an hour. The price is so affordable, we bought our Vacation Club membership even during this difficult economy because we saved over 40% of what we normally pay for our vacation. We are writing this review to encourage other Christian families to become members too. It's a great way to get out of the city and enjoy a relaxing and clean place in the mountains with your family. "Review from a 25 year returning family SAN DIEGO, CA Aug 16, 2010... We have going to Golden Bear Cottages for over 25 years and continue to go back for vacations as much as time and money permits. The owners - Don & Karen, Lenny & Lisa are the nicest people. They bend over backwards to help you have the best experience staying with them. The cabins are always very clean and well maintained as is the entire six acre resort property. With the heated pool and spa, horse shoe pit, basketball court, ping pong, volleyball court, and play ground its easy to keep as active as you want. If you want to relaxe you can BBQ next to your cabin or sit in the pool or jacuzzi. Our pet friendly cabin has a fenced yard in back for our dog. We like to sit by the pool and play Yatzee. We highly recommend staying at historic Golden Bear Cottages and tell all our friends and family if they are in Big Bear they should stay at Golden Bear Cottages!!! We joined their Vacation Club last visit so we can return to Golden Bear more often. We will see you again for the winter ski and snowboard season!"

"Review and positive comments: I have been taking retreat groups of 15-20 people or more up to Big Bear for the past 4 years and we have stayed at Golden Bear Cottages Resort every year. Their Big Bear family vacation rental cabins are great and there are so many sizes to choose from. The staff is kind and can help you out in all of your activities. From hiking, skiing, or snowshoeing, they can direct you. The staff is also like family. We actually made cookies one year and invited Golden Bear's handyman over for a sweet dessert with us! Family owned and right down the street from the slopes, Golden Bear is a great getaway for any family, church group, or adventurer. Thanks for the memories to Don and the staff!!"

"Great location for group retreat. A review by Kelly. I led a church youth retreat to Big Bear last month for a group of 10, and we stayed at Golden Bear. I was a little nervous because I hadn't checked it out ahead of time in person (had just looked at pictures and read reviews), but there was no reason for my nerves... it was exactly the way I had hoped it would be. We stayed in the five-bedroom cabin, and it was great. Lots of space for us to sleep upstairs, relax in the living room area (couches can be moved around for different configurations for games, movie watching, devotion time, etc.), and eating in the large dining room. One of the best parts is the kitchen - stocked with plenty of plates, cups, mugs, cookie sheets, pans, cheese grater, spoons and spatulas, etc. We brought up our own food in a cooler and loved being able to cook for ourselves all weekend - it was cheaper, and a great bonding experience as we made spaghetti, tacos, brownies, hash browns, etc. together. We did have trouble one night with the sink backing up when we were washing dishes, but we just used the bathroom sink instead, and someone promptly came and fixed it so it was no trouble the rest of the weekend. Golden Bear is conveniently located just a few miles away from the ski resorts (although, we were there on a sold out ski day and it took a long time to get there because of traffic... but that would be the case no matter where you stay!) The cabins are charming, had great snow coverage, and were very cozy... exactly what we were hoping for. The staff was very kind and friendly to us... check-in was quick, and when we checked out, someone gave us directions to get back home a faster way down the mountain. Trying to think of anything else... there was a DVD/VHS player in the living room, which we enjoyed using. We never used the brick fireplace, but the cabin was plenty warm with just the heat on. The high school students in our group really enjoyed the place - I think they're used to a little more run down conditions for past retreats, and I heard several times that we had picked a good place and that they liked it. It's also nice because we were all in the same 'house', and no one else was with us, which isn't always the case at a typical retreat facility - you often have to share with other groups, or are split into two different buildings far apart from each other. All in all, a great Christian run retreat. If we choose to do another Winter Camp next year (which at this point, I think we will!), we would definitely return to Golden Bear Cottages."

"Hi ! I just wanted to thank you again for this great week-end we spent in your adorable cabin called the 'Honey Pot'. All of us just loved it ! My husband had a great surprise for his birthday and he just wants to come back again and again, so you should see us some times during the year ! I also forgot to tell you when we left that we actually left a brand new vanilla ice cream in the freezer if anyone wanted to take it (I hate wasting food) I hope your maid found it and took it. "Top Overall Rating: Every year we return (this was our 22th visit as close as we can remember) to Golden Bear Cottages to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We enjoy the rustic, at home, feel of the clean cabins and we always relax and enjoy ourselves. Golden Bear Cottages is a great getaway spot only a couple of hours away from home. "Our family of eight was looking foward to a weekend in the snow for my grandson's birthday in January. That week Big Bear received a record 50 year snowfall and and most roads were temporarily closed to non-residents. We were able to reschedule our weekend and enjoyed every minute. This was our first time renting in Big Bear and our stay here at Golden Bear Cottages was perfect. Thank you to Lisa for making our family weekend happen. "Went up for a romantic Valentines weekend last month and LOVED the cabin we stayed in. The hospitality was excellent and the location was easily accesible to the village and the mountain. This is the best non hotel place to stay in Big Bear Lake. We told our friends and family about Golden Bear Cottages... and their very affordable vacation accommodations in Big Bear. "Top rating after a week in this rustic mountain haven: The Big Bear vacation for our family was the perfect getaway and Golden Bear Cottages was the perfect place. A quiet rustic cabin is what we wanted. The staff suggested one when we called to reserve. When we got there it was just like they described; it was great! After spending a week vacationing with other Christian families, our family was not ready to go home. Now that we are home, we are still thinking about those great times at Golden Bear Cottages in the cool San Bernardino mountains. We recommend this rustic family resort. It is a great value. "Joined Fisherman's Club this time and got 2 free days with our five day weekday vacation at Golden Bear Cottages. Our two story big resort cabin had plenty of room for our whole family. We used the BBQ and fully stocked kitchen daily. The Golden Bear Cottages Fisherman's Club membership gave us many great offers. Joining the Fisherman's Club was free. We got a FREE day with each paid weekday of lodging at Golden Bear Cottages. We got daily coupons good for 20% off the first hour and 20% off each additional hour for our pontoon fishing boat rental at Pleasure Point Marina (which was just a block from our cabin). We also got 4 free restaurant coupons that gave our family 50% off our second meal at some really great eating places in Big Bear Lake that were close to the lodge. Our experience was extremely good and all the people at Golden Bear Cottages treated us like friends, not just customers! We originally found Golden Bear Cottages while on a family reunion last year and had a great time, which is why we booked our family vacation here. The weather was cool. We loved it and will return for another family fishing and boating vacation on the mountain at Golden Bear."

"“We will definitely be back!” to Golden Bear Cottages Resort. We had rented a little economy cottage online not knowing it was close to the road and that the street noise might keep us from getting a good night's sleep. The next morning we told Don (one of the owners) what the problem was and he was so understanding, upgrading us to a much larger luxury cottage far from the road at no additional cost! He bent over backwards to accomodate us, even allowing us to check out late the following day. We will definitely come back as well as recommend the Golden Bear Cottages to our family and friends for their vacations. I rate this mountain resort at the very top for families traveling with young children. This reviewer gives the service at Golden Bear Cottages the very best rating! Yes, we were very impressed!"

"My satisfaction began on the phone with Lisa and her ability to get us just the right place we needed. When I made the reservation, there were four of us going . . . two days later, there were eight who would be in attendance for Labor Day Weekend. She changed cabins for us, even granting some leeway with a four footed guest as well. What we saw on arrival was perfect . . . perfect cabin, perfect amenities, we were all pleased. I guess one of the things I loved most was a table for eight in the kitchen. My, the wonderful times we had around that table in those three days. So cool. We cooked out over a charcoal grill and loved it. The kitchen was filled with just about everything we needed. They even provided the morning coffee. Gorgeous was especially impressed with the linens and towels, high quality. The toaster died Saturday morning. We had a new one, upon request, within fifteen minutes. Great service and given with a smile. Maid service every day at Golden Bear Cottages was a nice surprise, but we chose to do most of our own stuff, simply getting new towels, etc. mostly. There's plenty to do here. Heated pool, childrens play area and many other sporty things we ignored but were available. The lay out makes for a homey atmosphere. We talked with at least four or five other couples during the three days, as they sat on their front porches. Truely a warm, family place. Just know you're in the mountains here . . . and go with that spirit. You'll have a great time and we'll be back, maybe when it's just the two of us. We've already picked out the Golden Bear cabin we want. Of course, two grand daughters have picked out the 'Bear Hug' cabin for when they get to come back. Norm W... a Yelp member since 2009"

"My boyfriend took me here for my birthday and I loved it! We stayed in 'Grizzley's Den' cabin and it was perfect, very cute and warm with both a heater and wood burning fireplace. When we walked outside in the morning there were icicles hanging from the roof and it looked like a winter wonderland. The couple (Lisa and Lenny) who run Golden Bear Cottages were VERY nice and helpful and their store had a lot of little souvenirs and a wall to rent movies from. The only thing we had trouble with was parking our fairly large dodge ram in the shoveled out parking space, but it was definitely worth it. We are coming back again for my next birthday! It is the top place to stay in Big Bear lake!"
