What's The Mountain Weather Like? COLD
In WINTER, non-storm temperatures average around 40 degrees during daylight hours and drop to below 20 degrees after dark, stormy days will be colder. But, you can count on over 300 days of sunshine every year. 

  

LATEST El Nino UPDATE: March 5, 2010...The National Weather Service and NOAA are predicting the moderate El Nino weather event extending at least through Spring 2010. El Niño is expected to exert a significant influence on the global weather and climate in the coming  three months. El Niño impacts are expected to last into Southern California until spring. Expected impacts during March-April 2010:  include above-average precipitation for the southern tier of the country, that means lots of snow for Big Bear. Make your cabin rental reservations for late winter and spring snow today!
 

 

Long range forecast / discussion...March 16 to 31-- It looks like the Pacific stays busy through mid March, with fairly frequent low pressure systems moving in, with another storm possible around  the 16th. The snow storm on the 16th would possibly be more of a "cut-off" type system. By the 16th/ 17th, we see low pressure moving in off the Pacific for a chance of snow (the following Tuesday), with more snow storms possibly moving in that week. The rest of March, and April should be a good spring period for snow as the pattern remains unsettled most of the time, broken up by relatively short periods of high pressure. Now is looking like THE time to hit the slopes in SoCal ski resorts. Winter snow is far from over.   We believe much more Spring snow coming to Big Bear in March and April.

Snow Ski Report last updated:  TODAY for SNOW SUMMIT (JUST OVER 2 MILES FROM GOLDEN BEAR COTTAGES) and BEAR MOUNTAIN (JUST OVER 3 MILES AWAY)

All Runs are open offering a variety of terrain for all skiers and snowboarders. Cruise up to the Family Fun Zone for mellow green and blue runs with fun features! Ski the East Mountain- Chairs 6,7 and 10 for intermediate and advanced runs. Keep playing into the night on West Ridge and Zzyzx Parks with terrain features for everyone.

Day Session: 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Half-Day Session: 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Night Session: 3:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

2010 Amgen Tour of California to include Big Bear stage ... winding its way along mountain roads to finish in Big Bear Lake. ...

 
The Tour of California bicycle race will make a stop in Big Bear Lake in 2010. Twitter was much in evidence in the 2009 edition of the race, as Lance Armstrong mobilized his army of followers on the networking site. Armstrong will also compete in the 2010 Tour of California.
 
Sixteen host cities for the Amgen Tour of California professional cycling road race were unveiled Oct. 22 including the tour's first-ever mountaintop finish. The Stage 6 ride on May 21 will begin in Pasadena and wind its way along mountain roads to finish in Big Bear Lake.

The eight-day race will take place May 16-23 beginning in Nevada City, California, and ending in Agoura Hills. Besides Big Bear, other cities involved in the event include Bakersfield, Los Angeles, Sacramento, Davis, Santa Rosa, San Francisco, Santa Cruz, San Jose, Modesto and Visalia.

'For the 2010 Amgen Tour of California, we had the unique opportunity to move our race to a part of the year when we are almost guaranteed great weather in California,' said Andrew Messick, president of AEG Sports. 'This timing will help us to better showcase the beautiful features the state of California has to offer, while allowing us to travel to parts of the state that just weren't feasible in previous years.' Previous tours were in February.

The Amgen Tour of California is a Tour de France-style cycling road race, and is the largest cycling event in America. Soon after the 2010 tour stages were announced on Oct. 22, Lance Armstrong committed to competing in the event, along with three-time Tour of California champion Levi Leipheimer, Dave Zabriskie and George Hincapie. 2010 Amgen Tour of California to include Big Bear stage ... winding its way along mountain roads to a super finish in Big Bear Lake. ...


'Our community is pleased to be selected as the first-ever mountaintop finish for this awesome cycling event,' said Big Bear Lake mayor Rick Herrick. 'Event spectators and visitors alike will be able to stay in our quaint Alpine town, view a world-class event and take in the warmth and hospitality of Southern California's only four-season resort.'

Smart spectators and visitors are making their lodging reservations early. Big Bear hotel and resort cabin reservations will be limited.
