FISHING TIPS
JULY 4, 2008
Big Bear Lake trout fishing continued to be excellent this past
week as surface water temperatures held at an ideal 58 degrees.
Shore anglers working the north shore from Windy Pt. to the dam can
still fish off the bottom using a sliding egg sinker system with a
2 to 4 foot leader. Nitro bait and inflated night crawlers have
worked the best, as oxygen is plentiful from top to bottom.
Trollers using lead core at 2.5 to 3.5 colors with Needlefish in
the bikini pattern and Rapalas in rainbow and fire minnow pattern
have been working the middle of the lake from Windy Pt. to Papoose
Bay scoring limits of holdover trout to 3 pounds.
Five yr. old Cody Hipwell of LaVerne and his sister Josie remain
our photo choice this week. Cody landed a 6.46 lb. Big Bear Bow
while trolling a flatlined CD Rapala in Rainbow Trout pattern off
of Eagle Pt. Josie caught a 2.5 lb. rainbow that had a tagged
dorsal fin, part of the Troutfest.
Large trophy sized rainbow trout have been stocked in the lake
this past week. Fish raised in the Big Bear hachery over the winter
did break the lake record of 14.68 lbs. set during 1995. Look for
these fish to be caught next weekend and in the weeks to come.
Big Bear Marina is the first OFFICIAL WEIGH STATION on Big Bear
Lake. New LAKE RECORDS will be established! Bring your BIG FISH and
QUALITY LIMITS to the marina for weigh-in and be eligible for
monthly prizes.
This fishing research
is for our guest's benefit and yours. Local history, MWD

Cottages). This report is going to be
updated now every week because of all the fish being caught. If I

It's that
time of year again. You know, when things are getting a little too
crazy on the home front and you just gotta escape with a group of
your good buds. It's amazing what a few days of not shaving or
changing your favorite t-shirt, no matter how much it begins to
smell, can do for you. Besides, you deserve it. You've been
working way too hard. Some real relaxation is in order. Just you,
your friends, a fishing pole and cooler full of coldies. It's
not even so much about the fishing or whether you even catch a
fish. It's more about just hangin' with the guys in some
cool wilderness cove telling stories and rehashing your foolish
antics from previous trips. Golden Bear Cottages in Big Bear Lake
is your getaway fishing spot just 200 yards from the lake. Golden
Bear Cottages resort is rated one of the top 12 fishing lodges in
North America. Click here to see the Press

QUAGGA
AND ZEBRA MUSSEL
Dept. of Fish and Game Quagga Mussel
Information
With the
discovery of the Quagga Mussel in Lake Mead, Lake Havasu and many
other southern California lakes, we are taking the necessary steps
to prevent their spread to Big Bear Lake. It is critical that we
enlist the public's help. Boats
are the primary transporters of Zebra and Quagga Mussels. Any
vessel traveling from another lake or the Colorado River should
remain dry and out of water for at least seven days prior to
entering Big Bear Lake. All boaters should take the following steps
to inhibit the spread of the Zebra and Quagga Mussel.
Zebra and
Quagga Mussels bad for boaters and fish.
-
Destroy
fish habitat and food sources, thus threatening the
fishery.
-
Ruin your
engine by blocking the cooling system causing
overheating.
-
Increase
drag on the bottom of your boat, reducing speed and wasting
fuel.
-
Jam
steering equipment on boats.
-
Colonize
all underwater objects such as boat ramps, docks, lines and other
surfaces so they require constant cleaning.
HERE'S HOW YOU CAN
HELP!
-
Thoroughly
wash the hull of each watercraft once it is out of the water,
removing all plants and animal material.
-
Drain any
water through the vessel's hull plug, and ensure the area is
dry.
-
Ensure the
vessel's lower outboard unit is drained and dry.
-
Clean and
dry any live-well aboard the vessel.
-
Empty and
dry any buckets.
-
Dispose of
all bait in the trash.
Keep Big Bear Lake Quagga Mussel free...
Make sure your boat is CLEAN,
DRAINED, and DRY!
